Dragons don’t just disappear… do they?

The Somerset Dragon has been forgotten. Or so the grown-ups say. Elsie isn’t so sure. So she pulls on her boots and heads out with Grandad and Pippin across the hills, marshes and rocky cliffs of Somerset.

What begins as an adventure soon becomes something bigger. When we explore and care for where we live, its magic wakes up too.

The Tail of The Somerset Dragon is a beautifully illustrated softback gift that is sure to delight both parents and children.

Meet the characters

Before joining the characters on their adventure across Somerset, you can meet them here.

The Somerset Dragon

The Dragon

Meet the Dragon who guards Somerset, calm and still. His scales glow red like sunset light, with bright blue tongue, and wings held high.

Elsie

Elsie

Meet Elsie, who lives where the Tor stands tall, with old ruins and abbey walls. With Grandad’s map and Pippin’s nose, she wanders where the wild wind blows.

Grandad

Grandad

Holder of the map and teller of tales. He remembers what the old folk say: a dragon once kept all fear at bay.

Pippin the dog

Pippin

Grandad's dog with a keen nose and muddy paws. Where Elsie goes, Pippin follows: through streams, over stones, and into the wild.

About the creators

Serin Brown, born in Taunton and raised in Lympsham, wrote The Tail of The Somerset Dragon to share her love of Somerset with the next generation. Inspired by teaching her son about the Somerset flag, the story celebrates the places, pride and imagination that make the county unique.

Serin runs Ohana Studio, along with Ollie and Mark. Together they shaped the illustrations, layout and overall feel of the story, turning the words and artwork into the finished book.

Somerset Day is a county-wide celebration of everything that makes Somerset special. From its landscapes and towns to its traditions, creativity and community spirit, the day brings people together to share pride in the place we call home.

Each year on 11th May, communities across Somerset take part in events, storytelling, music, food and local celebrations. From village halls to town centres, Somerset Day is about coming together, celebrating our heritage, and creating new memories for the future.
